Weekend Predictions (Nov. 21 to Nov. 23, 2008): 'Bolt' and 'Twilight'

After the success last weekend of Quantum of Solace, this weekend is shaping up to be even stronger.

Two new films, Twilight and Bolt, have the potential to produce at least $100 million in combined box office this weekend alone.

Opening at 3,419 locations, Twilight is the heavy favorite to finish first this weekend. The film brings with it a massive (as well as obsessive) following thanks to the popular series of books written by Stephenie Meyer. Twilight has been posting incredibly strong advance ticket sales on sites such as MovieTickets.com and Fandango.com. Considering that the fan base will come out in droves and that non-fans may also be curious, Twilight should grab around $62 million this weekend.

After previewing last Saturday, Disney's Bolt opens wide this weekend at 3,651 locations. The film will easily bring in audience members too young for the thrills and romance of Twilight as well their accompanying adults. With that in mind, Bolt should expect to see a $45 million gross during its opening frame.

Last weekend's champ, Quantum of Solace, is aimed at a different audience—older males—than both Twilight and Bolt, which means that it should still fare pretty well in its second weekend of domestic release. Expect Solace to drop a little more than 50% from last weekend with a haul of around $31.5 million.
