Long Range Forecast: 'Little Fockers,' 'Gulliver's Travels' and 'True Grit'

forecast101610.pngThis week we've added three new films to the Long Range Forecast. Little Fockers and Gulliver's Travels both open on December 22, while True Grit opens December 25.

The first two Meet the Parents films brought in more than $703 million worldwide, which means that expectations will be high for the third installment. The fact that re-shoots were necessary is never a good sign. It's an indication that perhaps the property has lost its touch. Even if Little Fockers opens strong, unfavorable comparisons to the first two could result in less staying power.

Gulliver's Travels marks another 2D-to-3D conversion. Moviegoers have made it quite clear that 3D doesn't serve as a saving grace for an uninteresting film, and unfortunately the first trailer for Gulliver's was met with a weak reaction. Chances are that Jack Black will not have a new franchise on his hands.

True Grit reunites the Coen Brothers with their Big Lebowski star Jeff Bridges, a fact which should entice a fair share of patrons all by itself. Based on the trailer, its quite clear that the Coens are at home with the revenge plot of Grit. Expect the Paramount release to be one of the writing/directing duos biggest hits.
