Paramount will bring SpongeBob Squarepants back to theaters this February with The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. Will the live-action/animation hyrbid capture the attention of fans both old and young or has the property lost some of its commercial value? This week BoxOffice takes a closer at the film's commercial prospects.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water
(Paramount)

PROS:

- This same weekend last year, The LEGO Movie began its phenomenal run. We're betting that SpongeBob will appeal to the same crowds.
- The television show is still wildly popular.
- There's enough room between SpongeBob and the family-friendly releases that will open on Christmas Day.

CONS:

- Based on Facebook and Twitter tracking, the marketing campaign isn't quite as strong as we would like to see.
- It's likely that a lot of big SpongeBob fans have grown up and moved on.
