Melissa McCarthy takes a step into the world of action/comedy hybrids with Spy. Will her fan base follow her? This week BoxOffice takes a closer look at Spy's commercial prospects.

Spy
(Fox)

PROS:

- We like that McCarthy is re-teaming with director Paul Feig, the guy behind two of her strongest earners: Bridesmaids and The Heat.
- Having Jude Law and Jason Statham in the cast means that key male demos may show up for this one as well.
- There's still a need for more female-driven films in the marketplace and this will help fill that need

CONS:

- McCarthy stumbled a bit with Tammy last summer.
- Opening a week before Jurassic World won't be an easy task.
- If Pitch Perfect 2 really breaks out it could still some of Spy's thunder.
