Weekend Forecast: 'Furious 7'

Featured Stories - on April 01, 2015 by BoxOffice Staff

apr3pred.pngThe highly anticipated Furious 7 opens this weekend, kicking off a string of 2015 blockbusters eyeing record box office figures.

Furious 7

PROS:

- Unfortunate that it needs to be listed as a "pro", the tragic and untimely death of series anchor Paul Walker is no doubt boosting interest in his final film performance.
- The franchise has achieved a massive accomplishment with nearly $1 billion in domestic grosses, and each of the last three films setting franchise-high marks.
- The ensemble cast continues to appeal heavily toward minority demographics, particularly Hispanics and African-Americans.
- Early reviews and word of mouth suggest this will be one of the best received in the series.
- The market is ripe for a blockbuster right now, and this time of year has already proven it can deliver that in recent years.
- Fandango and MovieTickets.com each report record April pre-sales for the film, significantly outpacing Captain America: The Winter Soldier

CONS:

- There isn't much negative to say here. The only drawback could be some hint of franchise fatigue after seven entries, but the circumstances of this particular film will very likely overshadow that. Furious 7 is a safe bet.
